  • My "Why"....My reason for doing what I do stems from the fact that when I was young and even into my early adulthood, I could not do what you see in this photo.  I had disordered eating , I was cardio focused, I was not strong, and I was not happy.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have been bullied for my weight.  I have been bullied for the way I look.  Even when I was at my thinnest I was told I was too skinny.  Now I am told that I am bulky.  When is it enough?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That's literally when I threw my hands in the air and said “Screw This”! No more trying to achieve a specific look, because honestly the look didn't make me happy.  No more trying to achieve a specific weight, because I was always in a battle and being over-controlling of this brings out some nasty daemons that I have fought too long to not control me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instead I decided to focus on:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Being the best form of me I can be⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Enjoying time with my family⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Not feeling restricted by the thoughts of others⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Lifting to be strong and healthy⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Lifting smartly so that I can continue to maintain my joints and musculature well into my golden days⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Remaining active in a healthy way so that I live into my golden years (Barring no unforeseen incidents)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Eating right for my body at the various training stages based on my goals and the demands input on my body.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I am not perfect and everyday is a working battle,  but I am so much happier now than where I was before.  And I have made it my mission to help others feel the same. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • It’s has been too long since we have been in the gym together (3 weeks, but whose counting😂). Tomorrow morning it is the start of a new training program to help build and prepare for the next meet.  But hypertrophy is a whole different training style for me and I’m a bit scared.  If you see me crawling out of the gym tomorrow, please laugh at me and take pictures...my clients need black male material 😂

  • Let’s talk recovery...rest😶

Something that I hear lifters say:
✔️I don’t need to take a rest period
✔️Resting is for the unfit
✔️If I rest I will lose so much strength and progress
✔️Resting will cause me to lose focus and fall off my routine
✔️yadee...yadee...ya....
.
Here’s the thing about rest:
✔️this is when our body grows between workouts
✔️this is when our body repairs itself
✔️after a lengthy training block, a week or two off actually provides you the reset your body needs to make more gains during your next program/cycle
✔️overtraining can actually cause you to dislike training and mentally beat you down
✔️you may feel unfulfilled because you do not get to enjoy times with others and/or yourself
✔️yadee...yadee...ya

I competed on June 22 and in the weeks leading up to that meet, I just wanted it to be over.  I wanted to be out of the gym.  I was done.  I knew I had pushed my limit.  I pushed to the point I lost my glutes during my meet and wasn’t able to pull my gym deadlift PR and/or surpass it at the meet.
.
Post meet, I stayed out of the gym until Thursday where I did a small upper body workout with less than 60% my max weight.  My lower back still wasn’t happy, my glutes were sore and my body just felt tired so no lower body work.  So I had a massage. .
Week 2 post meet, I did 3 workouts, light weight to test out a few things and see how everything felt.  But even after this, my body was tired.  I was still training others and demoing exercises that my body was still having demands put on it.
.
So Week 3 post meet....nothing but camping, swimming, biking and relaxing with my family.  No thoughts of the gym.  No thoughts of planning my food.  I’m enjoying local beer.  I’m enjoying s’mores over the fire.  My mind and body are feeling happy again.
.
This is my rest and for the first time in a while, I’m looking forward to getting back into the gym.  Though I’m terrified of reps over 5😂😂😂.
.
But I’m so ready💪🏼🥰

  • Taking sumos for a ride finally.  Keeping it light because I’m still healing from the meet and don’t want to take 2 steps back to take one step forward.  But these are feeling good.
.
Still not training on a program as I have so much going on right now and vacation next week, so didn’t want to fall off again or fee stressed to workout on vacation.  But taking time to reorient my body to new training concepts.  Did you know any rep count over 5 sucks?!?!?!😂😂😂
