  • Outside of being in the gym, I absolutely love being in the kitchen.  It is my second love outside of working out.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In the kitchen, I get to make food for my family and my body.  I believe in cooking meals at home and only enjoying a night out every once and a while.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My meals are not extravagant.  They are simple and can usually be cooked within 40 minutes or less.  Some nights, the quicker the better.  But a majority of our meals are made at home.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I realize that I am lucky.  Not everyone enjoys cooking.  For some, it causes undue stress of planning what to cook.  For others, it causes anxiety because they don't know how to "properly" cook foods.  Here's the thing...not every dish I cook is done "properly". But it is not a peanut butter and jelly and it didn't come from KFC/Taco Bell.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Midevil torture devices these should be called.  The myoflex roller that was develop by Scott Hadley of the Hadley Clinic in Grand Rapids, MI has been a god send in keeping my calves, hamstrings and quads loose.  And then comes the baseball....the F^&^&% baseball.  Used wisely, you can loosen up your glute med, max, hamstrings, calves (if you don't have the roller)...it is a love/hate relationship. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I am telling you, these tools are one of the reasons why my body can do what I ask it to do everyday.  Add onto this my chiropractor and massage therapist, and right now I have the wellness team that ensures my body is working at its best.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Ok...this post is for the ladies... Nobody talks about it and heck why not! We all deal with it on a regularly...I’m talking about our menstrual time those things we call periods…😡BOOOOO! To those lifting around us who might not understand why you see us, let’s just say erratic, ballistic, wig out just plain loose it!  Huffing…puffing…crying… facial exasperation's…and slamming😤 weights in the gym.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lifting when your cycle is approaching is troublesome.  Frankly, it’s a 😖BIOTCH!  I will raise my hand as I hate it!! Days 18-22, I must begin a de-load and prepare for the hell that is about to befall upon me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Clearly there are other ladies out there suffering just like me during this time:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-we feel like crap…bloated, moody, crampy, uncomfortable and fatigue easier...Mother nature we honor you, just not during this TIME!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-due to all the above, our lifts are not as strong as they were the past 2-3 weeks, and this can really get into our head mentally!! Once again Mother nature this STINKS!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not to mention another struggle, we must listen to our bodies during this cycle because often it may lead to injury, extreme fatigue from not backing off, which requires longer recovery, and it takes longer to get back on track with progress.  But watching our lifts decrease can be hard to swallow.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Therefore, programming around our cycle is key.  When I plan my lifting program around my weeks during my cycle, I hit my PRs when I plan to hit it, I recover better so that I can keep going, and then I allow my body to recover when it is at its most vulnerable point (BONUS)! Then rinse, wash, repeat!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, if you see me in the gym and I look like I want to throw, kick, or punch something.  Or I'm not lifting as heavy as I did the week before...Best advice is to offer me chocolate the turn around and walk away.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
