  • Lets talk gym etiquette...
.
The rules of the gym.  These are the unwritten, unspoken rules, especially in the weight room (free weight area). .
**Listed in no particular order**
.
1.) DO NOT perform bicep curls in the squat rack...especially when someone is waiting to squat...WHERE?...In the squat rack!
**Same thing applies to the bench**
**Use the equipment as it is intended**
2.) Put your weights away and clean up after yourself (i.e. sweaty towels, tape, bandaides, etc).
**You should have been taught to pick up your things...if not, its a good time to learn.
3.) DO NOT use 3+ pieces of equipment and expect others to wait for your super circuit to be complete.
4.) DO NOT touch anyone's bar without their permission....EVER! **Always ask to rotate in.
5.) DO NOT drop your weights.  If you pick it up, lower it down.
6.) DO NOT walk in front of someone as they are doing a deadlift...stand back and wait for them to finish their set before you cross in front of them.
7.) Respect other's personal space (i.e. not everyone appreciates you yelling in their face).
8.) Share the equipment...If it is busy, share the bar with your lifting partner (yes, this could mean changing the weights often, but respect other's time).
9.) Adding on to 8.) DO NOT chat for 5+ minutes in between sets, especially if you are not working on strength or another training modality that requires a longer rest.
**If you are able to 8+ reps, you don't need 5 minutes...I'm just sayin'.

These are just a few that come to my mind and are things that I run into on a daily basis.  Anything else you all can think of and would like to share? .

  • Pushing today and attempted 185lbsx3 in my squat.

Damn me for taking too long before hitting the 3rd rep.  Everything felt good even though the second rep took more effort than the first one.

And this is why safety bars are set!  Especially if you don’t have bumper plates that can be dropped.

Before my first meet in October, I had only built to 190lbs for 1. 18bs on my back feeling good was mind blowing.  Love progress💪🏼👍🏼

  • Since when did we become so critical of our bodies that we forgot how to love them?  When did our looks become so important we go to drastic measures to change our appearance?
.
Since I could remember, I was taunted and bullied for being too big.  I developed bulimia and compulsive exercise habits and lost weight...I was still not thin enough!!! WTF?!?!?! .
When I competed in bodybuilding, I was too skinny..WTF?!?!?! I now powerlift and have been called "bulky" (insert big eye roll...because I have fun out of WTFs!)
.
For decades I fought to meet society's image of what women should be.  But there are still so many others out there who are still fighting this battle (i.e. trying to live up to society's expectations). Being active on Instagram for only a short while, I found amazing women who are promoting self-love, positive body image, finding your inner strength, and not allowing others or society define who we are.
.
I think this is a huge movement that should be built upon even more to help guide the future generation.  Teach them:
-To be happy and love who they are -To love their body
-To be strong and healthy
-To find the positive around them
-To acknowledge the negative, but to not allow it to saturate their world
-To celebrate their wins and learn from their mistakes
.
We are powerful individuals with so much to offer society and generations to come.  Our individuality is what makes us special and sharing our gifts and talents with the world should be encouraged. .
Never be afraid to say "I love who I am".
